Program Opportunities

Okpik 2011 - Does winter camping interest you? How about snow shoeing, living in a snow shelter that you made, or having fun in the snow? If so, join us in December 2011 in Ely, Minnesota at Okpik. Camp in the frozen back-country. Experience the traditional methods of winter travel: Snowshoe, Dog Sled, and Cross Country Skiing. Enjoy ice fishing and winter games while you learn how to thrive in extreme weather. Planned dates are December 26 - January 1, and the cost is estimated at $350 - $400 per person. We are looking to take 2 - 3 crews of 12. Registration forms available.

Philmont 2012 - It is time again for Philmont. The Council will offer a Philmont Contingent of three (3) crews of 12 each. We are planning to have one northern based crew, a southern based crew, and a Venturing crew. The dates are July 17 - August 2012 (including travel time). If you are a seasoned adult, please step forward to lead one of these crews. We will look to fill each crew with adults, Scouts, or Venturers from 3 - 4 different units, that have not been to Philmont before or in the last two years. Minimum age is 14 years by January 1, 2012. Pick up your application today!

Sea Base 2012 - You asked for it and we are bringing it to you. We are forming 2 - 3 crews in the summer of 2012 to head south to the Keys of Florida. Excursions to be planned once they become available and we will give you a selection to choose from: scuba diving, snorkeling, coral reef sailing, out island adventure... you pick and you are guaranteed to have a great time.

 The Summit chosen as site of 2019 World Scout Jamboree

The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve has been chosen as the site of the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019. The event will be hosted jointly by the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada, and the Scout Association of Mexico, and will be the first World Scout Jamboree held in the United States since the 12th world gathering was held at Farragut State Park, Idaho, in 1967. The 22nd World Scout Jamboree will be held this year in Rinkaby, Sweden, while the 23rd annual event will take place at Kirarahama, Yamaguchi, Japan, in 2015.

Future Council Trips - If you are interested in assisting us form a future Council trip besides Philmont, Sea Base, or Northern Tier, please contact us. We are open to ideas and suggestions and would welcome yours to add more adventure to our High Adventure Program.
