2012 NESA Scholarship Applications
This year the National Eagle Scout Association will award 153 scholarships to Eagle Scouts through various Eagle Scout scholarship funds. These scholarships vary in size from $1,000 to $50,000.
The scholarships are for tuition, room, board, and books only and are limited for use at a four-year accredited college or university that offers at least a bachelor’s degree upon completion of the course of studies.
These scholarships are not available to students attending a trade school, two-year college, or any of the U.S. military academies because at these academies, expenses covered by NESA scholarships are already paid by the U.S. government.

Sloan Speech Contest
The Blanche Carlton Sloan Four-Way Test Speech Contest for 2011 - 2012 is scheduled this spring. District-level competition will be held in conjunction with the District Assembly in late April.
Participating clubs earn 100 points in the Governor's Trophy competition for 2011 - 2012. This activity is also consistent with Rotary International's new Fifth Avenue of Service: New Generations.
High school-age youth may compete in either of two categories. Novice class is for youth with little or no competitive speech experience. Competition class is for those having such experience. Clubs may sponsor more than one contestant in each class. Different from previous contests, the size of the high school is not relevant - only the experience of the contestant.
Contest procedures have been simplified and entry fees have been reduced to $75 per entry. Another benefit for clubs is reaching out beyond high schools to area youth: home-schooled, Interact, church youth groups, Boys & Girls Clubs, FFA, DAR... any youth-oriented organizations. Cash prizes will be awarded to top contestants.
Related materials are posted on the District 6510 website: Information for Clubs, Info for Contestants, registration form, a sample news release. Contestants must be registered by the club no later than April 1, 2012.
Contest chairperson is Terry Mathias of the Rotary Club of Carbondale - Breakfast. PDG Blanche Carlton Sloan (1996 - 97) is a founding member of the club. Contact Mathias at (888) 378-2672 toll-free or (618) 924-5655 cell for information.
