The Boy Scouts of America collaborated with the American Welding Society, BSA Health and Safety Committee, and OSHA members to create the Welding merit badge.

Scouts can begin working on this merit badge on the earn date of February 24, 2012 as the pamphlet should be in stores very soon. Until then, requirements are available online now at
www.scouting.org/meritbadges.

The merit badge involves hands on skill devleopment with a career focus.
Introduction to Merit Badges:
You can learn about sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers as you earn merit badges. There are more than 100 merit badges. Any Boy Scout may earn any merit badge at any time. You don't need to have had rank advancement to be eligible.
